Kaushik claims CAO Open chess crown

Santosh Kaushik of Chattisgarh emerged champion in the CAO All-India Open Chess Tournament here a city hotel today. He scored eight points out of a possible nine to take home the top prize of Rs 30,000. Yoginder Shrivastav and Krishna Prasad (both Bihar) claimed the second and third prizes of Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively.

Organised by Chess Association of Odisha (CAO), the nine-round tournament carried a total prize fund of Rs 2 lakh. Former National `B` chess champion Mohammad Rafiq Khan handed over the prizes in the presence of CAO president Biplab Mishra and secretary Sabita Tripathy.

Tournament chief arbiter Debasis Panigrahi was felicitated on the occasion. Altogether 117 players from six states participated in the four-day tournament.
